The L.J. Hancock Music Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation was created to benefit Norwin Band alumni who are pursuing a degree in music or dance. In order to apply for the renewable scholarship, students must:
- Be a Norwin Band Alumnus.
- Be entering their junior or senior year in college.
- Major or Minor in Music or Dance.
- Maintain a grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4 point scale).
- Complete an application and include a one-page essay explaining
a. The impact on your life of being a Norwin Band member.
b. How this award will be used.
This scholarship is to be used for tuition and/or purposes such as buying a new instrument, sheet music, books, extra lessons, workshops, etc.
Final selection of the scholarship winners will be decided (subject to the approval of the Board of Directors of The Pittsburgh Foundation) by a Scholarship Advisory Committee. No member of the Advisory Committee, or his or her immediate family, is eligible for scholarship assistance during his or her tenure on the Advisory Committee.
The Pittsburgh Foundation shall notify the chosen scholarship recipient(s) of its decision. The scholarship payment will be made after The Pittsburgh Foundation’s June Board Meeting, and after the student verifies the school he or she will be attending. Payment will be made to the school for the student.
